Throughout veterinary school, I wanted to combine my passion for advocacy and veterinary medicine. That manifested as research and service to beef cattle producers and consumers. My unique combination of interests has allowed me to win be the 2022 recipient of the Associate Dean’s Award for excellence in leadership and professionalism at the MSU CVM, the 2023 recipient of the American Association of Extension Veterinarian’s Student Travel Award to present at the annual symposium, the 2024 recipient of First Place in the Graduate Student Oral Presentations competition at American Association of Bovine Practitioners, 2024 MSU CVM Graduate Student Ambassador, and the 2025 MSU Association of Public and Land-grant Universities Council for Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching (CARET) Delegate.

What advice would you give to someone entering your field?
Many often think veterinary medicine is only about working on and saving animals, but it is so much more than that! You get to truly impact people through their animals; with small animals it is keeping their companion healthy, with large animals it is protecting their livelihood. Veterinarians’ skill sets are so diverse that while we are trained in preventing, diagnosing, and treating issues in animals, we also protect the food supply chain through meat inspection, analyze public health crises with a thorough understanding of population dynamics, and can still treat someone's first pet gerbil! It is such a cool profession!
