Callen Woodard

J.D. Candidate

At Alabama Law, I serve as Executive Editor of the Alabama Law Review, Co-Chair of the Moot Court Board, and an Academic Success Fellow mentoring first-year students. As an intern in the Children’s Rights Clinic, I assist children with special needs and their families with special education matters in the Tuscaloosa area schools. Inspired by this work, I co-founded a book club for young women in a local juvenile detention center. I was the first law student selected for the XXXI Women’s Honorary and will clerk for Chief Judge R. David Proctor of the Northern District of Alabama after graduation.

What advice would you give to someone entering your field?

Law school is just the start of your journey in the legal profession, so be kind and intentional with your peers. It’s easy to get caught up in the competition, but building relationships and supporting each other will make the experience more meaningful. A legal education is a gift, and it’s important to remember that you’re learning not just for yourself, but to make a difference in your community. Big changes often start with a small impact on those around you, so use your education to create positive change - whether through public service, advocacy, or contributing to causes that matter to you.
